While many options exist for Home Based Travel Agents (HBAs) in our industry, American Discount Cruises (ADC) offers HBAs the necessary business and technical support while at the same time offers a warm and friendly place to call home. As a seasoned agent, I prefer a balance between a close working relationship with the staff and my freedom as an independent contractor and ADC has shown that they honor such a partnership. In addition, ADC provides training and educational support to their HBAs regardless of their experience level.

I have worked as a travel agent since October 1992. Until joining the staff of American Discount Cruises, I had never before experienced the kind of camaraderie, helpfulness and professionalism that I am now fortunate to enjoy at ADC. As an outside agent who comes into the office only occasionally, I am amazed by the welcome I receive when I walk through the door and by the expertise of Marcy, the other agents and the support staff who are always so willing to offer help when I need it. I have been a home based agent for about 5 years now. American Discount Cruises is the second company I have been associated with. I can honestly say that I LOVE what I do and LOVE working with ADC! The pros of the company are many - the people, support, training, procedures, opportunities, high commissions, communication, etc. I truly feel that if I ever need assistance, or have a question, I have someone I can turn to. I had a background in banking, taxes and even had my own secretarial services business prior to going to cruise school. Nothing was ever as rewarding as this! I would say, for me, the only negative thing I can possibly think of about being a home based agent is that if no one else is home, I sometimes lose track of time and work a little longer than I usually would - usually doing training or "research" :). It is easy for me to do this, because I enjoy it so much.

I have been a teacher for 23 years and decided I wanted to start a second career to supplement my income. I always wanted to be a travel agent, but I went to college for an education degree and became a teacher. It is now 23 years later, and my interest in becoming a travel agent was still something that I wanted to do. It was not possible to leave my teaching job. I read information about the possibility of becoming a Home Based Outside agent through a host agency. So I started my search. I researched host agencies through Googling "travel host agency" and that is how I found American Discount Cruises & Travel. Marcy Hamed, owner of ADC contacted me and that is how it all began. My dream of many years became a reality. As someone with no real prior experience other than making my own travel arrangements I was a little hesitant to start a new career. I can say that I have been thoroughly impressed with this agency. I am with the agency a little over one year. The level of support and the training offered by ADC is outstanding. I also receive a lot of trade magazines, but find that I already know some of what is in them because ADC keeps me so well informed. As an independent contractor, and being new in an industry such as travel it is a huge help to receive so much information and training. We can all "book travel," but booking travel and "designing" vacations for someone is much more than "booking travel." In the beginning I felt a little overwhelmed with so much information, but I am now a lot more comfortable and manage the flow of information much better. I have a wonderful support team that is there for me whenever I need it. I am very grateful to be affiliated with ADC and never ever have felt left out in the cold. I trust their work ethic. I appreciate the hard work ADC puts in for all of us home based agents. I also appreciate being associated with a company with the reputation that ADC has. I've been in the travel industry for well over 39 years and have seen it all! My recent affiliation with American Discount Cruises is relatively new.
